Ski-Berg is an active researcher within the field of higher education. She is particularly interested in examining how power unfolds in the institutional environment and how creativity is enabled (and inhibited) by power structures. Ski-Berg has, among other theories, employed discourse theory and theoretical frameworks from organisational institutionalism to examine the changing power dynamics in higher music education, resulting in her doctoral thesis entitled Pressures to change: Institutional politics in higher music education. Currently, Ski-Berg is researching how institutional change is mediated in higher education, and how organisations transition into a more sustainable future.
